What is Reproduction?

Reproduction is a biological process by which all living organism give rise to new individuals of their own.

Reproduction is the process by which the existing organisms produce their own kind.

• The DNA in the cell nucleus is the information centre for making proteins.

• The first step in reproduction is replication of DNA followed by cell division.

• Variation happen during copying of DNA

• These variations are the basis of evolution.

• Variations are useful for the survival of species over time.

Types of reproduction :

Reproduction are two types : 1. Asexual Reproduction and 2. Sexual Reproduction.

Asexual Reproduction :

When a single parent is involved in the formation of a new individual, without the fusion of gametes, it is called asexual reproduction.

Sexual Reproduction :

When two parants ( male and female ) combining DNA during reproduction, it is called sexual reproduction.

Differences between asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction :

1. Asexual reproduction involves a single parent; On the other hand, sexual reproduction involves two parents.

2. In asexual reproduction no gametes are formed during reproduction; Gametes formation takes place in sexual reproduction.

3. No or little variations occur during asexual reproduction; Many variations occur during sexual reproduction.

Poor in our heart is the real poor

During the time of Buddha people used to come to Buddha to solve all their problems. Oneday a poor old woman came to Buddha with a hope to become rich. She asked to Buddha, why am I so poor? What we need to do to become rich? Is learning to get not enough? Do I need to learn to give also?

One day an old women came and asked to Buddha..............

Old Woman : Why I am so poor?

Buddha reply : You are poor because you do not learn to give?

“Learning to get is not enough we also need to learn 'How to give others?' If you give something than you will get everything."

Poor Woman : I have nothing to give.

Buddha : You have few things to give, not less at all.

Face: You can smile, enjoy, cheerful and happy.…

Mouth: You can speak with kind words, encourage people, cheerful and give them comfort.

Heart : You can open your heart to the others by sincere, truthful and kindness.

Eyes : You can looking at the others with kindness and compassion.

Hand : You can use your hand to help out the others.

See…. You are not poor at all.

According to Buddhism poverty is bad because it involves dukkha , best translated as “ill-being” in this context. The goal of the Buddhist path is to end our dukkha , and that does not imply any significant distinction between worldly dukkha and some other spiritual type. So Buddhism does not and cannot value poverty that is a source of dukkha. Poverty means lacking the basic material requirements for leading a decent life free from hunger, exposure and disease. The basic needs of a monastic provide a useful benchmark: food sufficient to alleviate hunger and maintain one’s health, clothing sufficient to be socially decent and to protect the body, shelter sufficient for serious engagement with cultivating the mind, and health care sufficient to cure and prevent disease. People who voluntarily renounce worldly possessions and pleasures in favor of a life of such minimal needs belong to the community of “noble ones” (ariyapuggala ).

There is a causal relationship between material poverty and social deterioration, according to the Lion’s Roar Sutra. It tell the story of a monarch who at first relied upon the Buddhist teachings but later began to rule according to his own ideas. He did not give property to the needy, with the result that poverty became widespread. Due to poverty one man took what was not given and was arrested; when the king asked him why, the man said he had nothing to live on. So the king gave him some property, saying that it would be enough to carry on a business and support his family.

Exactly the same thing happened to another man, and when other people heard about this they too decided to steal so they would be treated in a similar way. Then the king realized that if he continued to give property to such men, theft would continue to increase. So he decided to get tough on the next thief: “I had better make an end of him, finish him off once for all, and cut his head off.” And he did.

The Story Of A Beautiful Woman Named Melina

There was a young beautiful woman named Melina who lived with her parents in a village near Sikkim. She was studying to become a doctor. After she had completed MBBS, she managed to win a scholarship for studies in USA. She got her Master Degree and came back to serve in India while her friends stayed back. Melina's father was not happy with his daughter's decision. He wanted his daughter to make America her home, earn a lot of money and finally invite her parents and brother also to settle down in America. But Melina was adamant. “My country has spent thousands of rupees in educating me. I have to repay this debt. The only way I can do it is by serving the people here. Moreover, India and it's villages need good doctors.

She worked in a government hospital in the city. A year later an epidemic broke out in the nearby villages. Melina left immediately to serve these suffering people. She didn't even inform her parents for fear that they would stop her.

She was busy treating the patients and the situation was very grim.

Melina became a victim of the epidemic for working continuously without taking rest.

Her parents rushed to see her. She was in a very serious state. She could barely speak.

Her father asked “Why are you torturing yourself as well as us, daughter?"

“I can't help it father. I can't bear to see people suffer."

“Your friends are enjoying life in America, earning a lots of money and living in comfort and look at you here - fighting for your life. I can't understand what your are getting by doing all this. If you don't care about yourself, at least think about your poor mother. Just see her condition. She has gone half mad worrying about you."

“Father I don't think I'll ever be able to convince you about my actions. All I can say is that I have the satisfaction that I have been able to save so many lives. Forgive me if I have tortured you. But please try to understand that I could not help it. I can't watch people dying all around me and not able to do anything for them."

After battling for a month, Melina died in her mother's arms.

The entire village was there at her cremation and there was not even one eye which was not wet with tears.
